Meet the Family Behind Wigan Hearing

Meet Darren Glancey – Your Local HCPC Audiologist

I’m Darren Glancey, the lead audiologist here at Wigan Hearing. Audiology isn’t just my job – it’s my passion. Over the past decade, I’ve helped thousands of people across Wigan and beyond rediscover the sounds they love.

My qualifications and memberships mean you can trust the care you receive:

Foundation Degree in Hearing Aid Audiology (FdSc)
BSc (Hons) in Audiology
Board Director and Fellow of BSHAA (British Society of Hearing Aid Audiologists)
HCPC Registered (Health and Care Professions Council – the official regulator for audiologists in the UK)

Member of AIHHP (Association of Independent Hearing Healthcare Professionals)

Being HCPC registered is particularly important. It means I am legally accountable for my practice and must meet strict professional standards set by the UK regulator for audiologists. Unlike some providers who advertise CQC registration (which applies to doctors and care homes, not audiologists), we’re regulated by the correct body – the HCPC. That gives you peace of mind that you are always in safe hands.

Meet the Glancey Family – The Heart of Wigan Hearing

Behind every appointment at Wigan Hearing is our family. We don’t just work here – we live here too, right in Standish.

  • Michelle – Nurse, Mother, and the Heart of Our Clinic –

My wife Michelle is the heart of Wigan Hearing. As a fully qualified nurse, she brings a wealth of medical knowledge and compassion to our clinic. She divides her time between supporting our patients at reception and looking after our three children, and she does both with warmth and patience.

When you arrive at Wigan Hearing, it’s often Michelle’s friendly smile that greets you. She makes sure the clinic runs smoothly, keeps everything organised, and ensures every patient feels welcome and at ease. Many people say she makes the clinic feel more like a home than a healthcare setting – and I couldn’t agree more.

  • EthanOur Tech Enthusiast

Our eldest, is a typical modern boy. He loves his iPad, Minecraft, and gaming – and if you’ve got kids or grandkids, I’m sure you can relate! While he may be glued to his screen at times, he also helps out with the day-to-day jobs around the clinic. Whether it’s folding leaflets, setting up for local events, or helping with odd jobs, Ethan plays his part in keeping Wigan Hearing ticking over.

His love of technology also keeps us sharp – sometimes he teaches us more than we teach him!

  • Erin The Creative Spark

Then there’s Erin, our bright and bubbly pre-teen. She’s a big fan of chess, board games, and of course, all the “girly” things that pre-teens love – from fashion trends to social media.

Erin has a knack for telling me when something looks outdated or “uncool,” and she’s usually right! She keeps Wigan Hearing on-trend, whether it’s ideas for our website, social media, or even just reminding us that first impressions matter.

Her creativity brings a fresh energy to the family and, in her own way, she’s already contributing to the clinic’s future. As you can see from the pic, Erin has also had an obsession with ears from an early age and is set to take over the business (in 10 years or so!)

  • Edward – The Cleaner, the Polisher, and the Harley Fan– The perfectionist

Last but not least is Edward – our youngest, and without doubt the quirkiest of the bunch. Edward has what can only be described as a passion for cleaning. He has a strange (but very handy!) obsession with hoovers, and can often be found around the house pretending to vacuum or polish things until they shine.

The upside? Our clinic is always spotless when Edward is around!

Edward also shares my love of motorbikes, especially Harley Davidsons. He’s fascinated by them, and one day I’m sure he’ll be out on the open road with me. Until then, he’s happy riding his imagination and “hoover bike” around the house.

As a family, we’re proud to put our stamp on Wigan Hearing. This isn’t just a business – it’s our legacy.
